Art Basel, the most prestigious international art fair, is once again being held in Messeplatz, in the Rosental district.

This morning I wanted to capture the feel and atmosphere of the place before visiting the fair tomorrow. A completely empty Messeplatz is rare and quite impressive.

In the centre, towering over the place and seeming to touch the skies we can see the Basler Messeturn, designed by the firm Morger & DegeloCompleted in 2003 it currently houses the Ramada Plaza Hotel, generous office space and on the top, the Bar Rouge from where it is possible to enjoy a great view across the city.

No longer empty, the square now provides the backdrop for the installation known as the Zome Alloy.   This is a single family house made by the artist Oscar TuazonThis installation is an adaptation of Zome House (1972) made by the inventor and designer Steve Baer and an excellent example of how passive solar technology works.
